John Sebastian
Morning Show Personality
John Sebastian decided to be on the radio when he was 13. He grew up in Dearborn, (a suburb of Detroit), where he began a Fan Club for Mickey Shorr just so he could get into the studio to watch. That experience led to stints running controls at “record hops” for Detroit stars Joel Sebastian, Dave Prince, and Marc Avery. The Army came after high school and John began his “on air” career while on duty with the military. The first gig on KULA in Honolulu led to jobs at several other stations. He was “Sandy Cole” at KORL for two years then moving to Detroit where he was the first “hard rock” deejay in Detroit, working for WABX in its infancy. John accepted the call at KRCB in Council Bluffs Iowa (across the river from Omaha) joining the station to put a 100 KW signal over the air. After that John went back to Michigan to WJIM in Lansing where he was both the midday personality and the TV weatherman for Channel 6. Programming lured John to WKHM in Jackson, which led to WABJ in Adrian where John held the morning reigns on-again and off-again for 24 years. He also taught for 3 years at the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts where he advanced from staff teacher to Director of Education, creating a course in weather casting that allowed the school to win a feature spot on the TV show “20/20”. John also was the weekend/replacement weather caster for TV 13 in Toledo for 2 years. John has won awards as the runner up for Adult Contemporary Deejay of the Year (Billboard Magazine), and winner of the Personality of the Year for small markets from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. John joined WCZY in Mount Pleasant in April of 2006…and currently wakes up the listeners in Mid Michigan on the morning show with co-host Tina Sawyer from 6 to 9 AM weekdays. John also serves as Operations Manager for stations WCZY-FM and WMMI-AM. When he’s not on the air, John is the owner of John Sebastian Productions...a company that provides messages and music for telephone hold systems with clients in 18 states.
