***Some changes are coming to Mt. Pleasant’s School budget. Last night a packed house at West Intermediate cheered as Board President Barry Alford announced that the Oasis Alternative High School would not be combined with the High School in the media center and that Principal Jeff Thoenes would be keeping his job. Alford read aloud a memo from Superintendent Joe Pius that a new proposal would be presented at a later date…drastic cuts will still need to be made to next year’s budget. One of those cuts is shutting down Rosebush Elementary..which should be decided upon by April 1st. The next regular board meeting will be March 15th.
***Emergency info will soon be just a text away in Alma. Alma Police has launched a new emergency alert program. Emergency warnings, road and street information and community announcements can be delivered to your e-mail address or by text messaging with a new system called Nixle. It is a grant funded program that is free to the public.
***Shaheen gets its caddy back! GM got rid of the brand from Shaheen Buick-GMC in Mt. Pleasant and other dealers last year but after heavily campaigning officials at GM, the earlier decision was reversed. They found out Friday they were reinstated as a Cadillac delaer again.
***Coco Joes was the site of a break in sometime between 2:30pm Sunday and 6am Monday morning. Sheriff Leo Medesheski said in a press release to WCZY News that the suspect or suspects smashed out the glass front door of the business on Bluegrass Road in Union Township, and took an undisclosed amount of cash . No suspects are in custody.
