***Clare County Police arrested a Farwell man Sunday who had an explosive device at a residence over the weekend. The Sheriff’s Dept says the man was a 49-year old convicted felon who had it at a house in the White Birch Subdivision, North of Farwell. He also had a firearm and body armor, and several marijuana plants.
***A packed house is expected at West Intermediate Schools tonight as parents, school staff and tax payers come together to offer their 2 cents about a budget plan for the schools. Public opinion will be held in front of the Mt. Pleasant School Board in the cafeteria tonight at 6:30pm.
***State Rep Tim Moore may hold a new title: Principal Moore. The Morning Sun says negotiations are going on between Moore and the Farwell School District. Middle School Principal Diane Wilberding is planning to retire and Moore was offered the job even though he has no experience in education. Officials from the school however, say he has other skills that stand out for the job. Moore has not formally accepted the job but it is expected he will start Aug. 1st. He would first resign from his elected position fromt eh state House.
***Alma’s Queen of Scots has been crowned. Jaycee Rose Cole will reign over the 43rd annual Highland Festival May 28-30th. Cole is an 18-year old senior at Alma High School and was crowned Saturday night.
***Shepherd Police now has some money to work with to upgrade their equipment and building. A $14,281 grant from the Byrne Justice Assistance Program and a 10% village match will allow the dept. to upgrade bikes with emergency equipment, helmets and duty bicycle bags. In-car digital cameras and closed circuit TV security systems will also be installed for security using the grant money.
